THE images are still vivid, images of that sad and cold day in January. A day that has changed the meaning of my entire life.
What is the cross? It is a symbol, above all of our Lord Jesus’ sacrifice. It symbolizes the “danger, high current” sign on an electrical pole. It symbolizes the red flashing signal at a train crossing. It symbolizes the “do not enter” sign on a closed road. Ultimately in each of these cases though, everything depends on the response of the one seeing the sign. In each of these cases the cross is a warning sign, “danger, be careful, do not play around, it may cost you your life.”

“After abortion was legalized on December 26, 1989, the obstetrics/gynecology office I work in as a nurse began performing abortions at patients’ request. All staff was scheduled to take turns assisting the doctors in this practice and it became a lucrative business since the tips we received doubled our salaries. Although in theory I knew that abortion was wrong, when my turn came all I cared about was the extra money I would make. Two weeks into my turn I began experiencing sleeplessness, nightmares, and a constant state of anxiety.
